Take a minute to think about
the planet your are living on right now; the global warming, diminishing
species, the insufficient resources, and finally the increasing population…
These are reasons why we
have to start thinking about the future… But, it is not the kind of kind of
“thinking” like assessing what we are going to work with in the future or where
we are going to live, this is more of a thought about how we act as human
individuals in linear progression in order to help our planet earth.
Not only has our world
population been given the orders to increase our standard of living (to a
greener living), but also does the corporate companies around us.
Coca Cola is one of the
companies that have started a new campaign, called “Arctic
Home”, to act towards the polar bears that are, since Thursday, considered
a “species
at risk” because of the diminishing ice (due to global warming) that is
threatening their living habitat in the Arctic Sea. These homeless polar bears
in the Arctic countries have gone down to a count of 20,000-25,000,
which is projected to quickly decline even further according to the World
Wide Fund, which say: “by 2040, the summer sea ice could be reduced to a
small fringe on the northern coasts of Canada and Greenland.” So, soon there
will not be any more polar bears if we don’t help them.
The Coca Cola company hope
people will actually be inspired to see the white cans to live a more
environmentally friendly life. Coca Cola has already donated $2 million for the
cause and propose an additional $1 million in donations from the Coca Cola
buyers.
Why Polar bears? you may
ask… Polar bears are animals that are one of the most suffering animals from
the global warming and has a great connection with the brand Coca Cola from the
start, because they had the bear as a symbol in one of their first ads in 1920,
and so this is a good start for Coca Cola to assess one of the many endangered
animals that are suffering because of human carelessness, which can be
prevented!
World Wide Fund
program manager Simon
Lewis said “Coca-Cola, in association with World Wide Fund, will address
the critical challenges involved, and help to set new industry standards that
we hope will make a difference around the world."
Brands going in to
collaborations like these will definitely help the people to realize the
importance for us to think about the well being for ourselves and our future
earth. It is inspiring to see that others are working for a good cause and that
will create a snowball-effect to other caring people, hopefully!
In summary, the future of
the earth resources looks very scarce, because we live over our resource
capacity today in the western world. The only way to prevent our growing
population to be able to live on the diminishing natural resources is to
rethink our every-day-standard of living. There are many ways to save natural
resources in an easy way, for example: to use water efficiently by shutting off
the water while you brush your teeth or shower and only use the water to rinse
off, or to take the bus to school and work, and also to recycle the products
you use.
Let’s all do our part in our
homes by doing earth friendly decisions!

Your post brings attention to the major problem of global warming. It is unfortunate that many species, such as the polar bear, suffer so greatly. However it is amazing that Coca - Cola sets new "industry standards," along with the World Wide Fund, to combat this problem. I personally love the design they chose for the can. It will definitely raise awareness and hopefully "make a difference around the world."
ReplyDeleteThis post is a great build up from your previous one regarding green manufacturing. As a kid growing up, I've always enjoyed watching the Coca Cola commercials with polar bears, it was just something about them that just went so well with the Coke brand. Its nice to see a large company such as Coca Cola takes the time to consider the environment and the future of such diminishing species of animals. I hope more and more major companies will look at this as a role model and take part in similar causes. Its only a matter of time until we see something arise from Pepsi, but I consider this to be healthy competition.
